What a cleanup! We had 20 volunteers today, and covered a large swath of Vandewater Street and the surrounding area. We never could have imagined the amount of litter we would find there. It appears there was an old encampment in the area, as well as lots of evidence of old dumping. It's difficult to step, and just feel/hear plastic underfoot. When you go to pull that plastic out, there's just layers and layers of it underneath.

Sometimes, we struggle to decide if picking up smaller, soon to be microplastic pieces up, or focus on the big stuff. Really, there is no right or wrong answer. It all counts and adds up.

We had a nice conversation with a man named Paul from the neighborhood, who thanked us for our work, and helped us brainstorm some approaches to the litter problem.
